Like any other child Christiana doesn't like to go to sleep. Our bedtime routine is pretty standard, bath, wash face, brush teeth, hugs and kisses, prayer (she now likes to lead our night, night prayer), then bed. Weeell it's not always that easy. Munchie tries to find any and every reason to not go to go to bed.
Here are a few of her excuses or ways that she tries not to go to sleep:
- Water please/I want water: I got hip to her little game and now I keep her bedtime water cup on the night stand. We used to get up and give it to her. She's still not going straight to bed, but this will at least keep her in it.
- I wanna go see my daddy: This one she'll climb out of bed with her "soft blanket" or "princess blanket" and go in the living room with him. Now with this excuse she wants to hang out and watch T.V. with him. Once he turns that off and says okay Munch I'm going to put you to sleep on the couch, she hops up and walks back into the bedroom.
- I have to go to the potty: Now that we are in the potty-training season she uses this one at least 2 times a week when the other 2 don't work. I don't want to deny her the potty, especially when she's letting me know so we get up and go. 95% of the time she does have to go. :O)
- Mooomma: This one is her try to butter me up move. She gets all in my face (literally), lays her face on mines, gives me a hug, and continuously says mooomma. I love that she's learning to be mushy, but it's bed time!
- No more ne-ne: This is her way to try to sneak in my shirt. This is partly my fault since I used to nurse her to sleep. Every now and then she tries to sneak in my shirt and say "No more ne-ne" while looking at me with a smile. I say that's right Christiana, no more ne-ne now go to bed.
- She wants to look out of the window and see the lights
- She'll start singing her kiddie songs
After all her little tricks, she's usually down by 10! Waaaay to late!! Sometimes when she's extremely exausted we don't have the resistance and she'll lay down on her own (this is rare). What I've been doing now is just turning my back on her and say "since you don't want to go to sleep, Mommy is going to sleep". She climbs over and says "turn around momma" and lays down for a little while. Yaaaaay! right? Nope! She then tries to pull another rabbit out of her hat.
During naptime, sometimes I have to pretend to be sleep. Most times this works, but every so often she'll try to pry my eyes open and say "Wake up momma". She's funny.
