My students love hearing stories about Christiana and they get even more excited when I let them know she's coming up to the school. Some of my students even go as far as to say my "sister" or "god daughter" is supposed to be coming up to the school today. One of my girls says "When is daddy going to bring my baby sister to school?" I crack up laughing at that one! Since my students are super excited to either meet Munch for the first time or want to see her again, I use it to my advantage. I use her coming to the school to get them to bring their parents to Back to School Night and Parent/Teacher conferences. I mean how could they not get excited to meet or see my her?
On those nights my passing students show up and not the ones that REALLY need to come. I'm not taking away from those involved parents, I just would like to see more support from my other parents/guardians. Weeell for the most part my little ploy works. I've had at least 35 parents show up; my last conference I had 41. Now that may not seem like a huge number, but I used to get no more than 30 parents. My students really want to meet Christiana AND earn more Teems dollars. Sometimes they get sooo excited they are watching her while I'm meeting with their parent/guardian.
Anyhoo these days are super long for both me & Christiana, but I really want her to get used to being in a classroom setting and have my students help with her social skills (even my crazies simmer down and it makes them feel special that they got to play with their teachers daughter), and I just love having her with me. So here's the routine for back-to-school night & parent/teacher conferences:
- After school is out,I literally leave when the kids leave to pick her up from daycare (20-30 mins one way)
- If I don't have dinner for us I pick that up (10 mins)
- Come back to work, by this time I usually have about 3 kids waiting by my door to help me get my room parent ready (30 mins)
- Take out my bag of tricks for Munchie (snacks, building blocks, crayons & coloring books & the Ipad) so I can comb her hair, wipe her down, and get her dressed (20 minutes)
- Sign back in and wait for the parents/guardians to show up.

By 7 she starts getting antsy and wanting all my attention, but I have great students and parents that try to keep her busy so I can finish up. We are usually done by 8/8:30 (mind you it's supposed to be over at 7:30). For the most part she's a trooper and I love her for trying to hang with the big kids (by 5 minutes on the road home, she's knocked out!). She's pretty social and doesn't get whiny or super clingy. When she does whine, it's for a couple of minutes and that's to make sure I know that she's around (which is alright with me). :O)

OMG Chineye! She is growing up to be such a little lady! Love your updates!!
